Bangkok Travels Day 1 & 2

Aloha!
As promised, I will be blogging about my recent trip to Bangkok and what I did for the 5 days I was there. I know many of you are probably more familiar with Bangkok than I am, but I hope you guys will still be interested in what I'm gonna write!

Here's my airport get up for a comfy flight to BKK, very thankful to have collected all these clothes before i left!

From the airport, we hailed a taxi to get to our apartment, klapsons Bangkok, The River Residences that was just 30 mins or so away. And we were greeted by this beautiful sight!
For more information and my review on my stay at klapsons, read my blog post here.

After settling in to our apartment, we headed to meet our friends at BOYY Cafe located at Thong Lor. Prior to the visit, I've already seen many Instagram posts on this cafe and have been very excited to try it out.
But first, we needed to take a photo outside the compound, and at the signature bench right below the main sign!
Food at BOYY wasn;t cheap at all, in fact I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the menu. So much have changed since I visited BKK 2 years ago!
Just in a short span of 2 years, so many cafes have popped up and some of them even charging such exorbitant prices like the ones in SG.
I ordered a latte at BOYY and I guess it was not bad. But it being the first day, I was still sulking over the prices I paid. This cuppa costed 130THB (SGD 5.40) which was considered even more expensive than some of the lattes I had in singapore.
Tom Yum Angel Hair Pasta 220THB (SGD9.20)
This pasta was very delicious and I liked the fusion of western with a local favorite - Tom Yum. However, the portion was so miserable! This plate that costs a whopping almost S$10 is served in a plate sooo small, I could finish everything in maybe just 5 mouthfuls. Not kidding.

If you're wondering why portions look so big in photos, its all about proportions. So yes.. I would liken the size of the plate to the size of the plates you find in teacup sets. Maybe just a teeeny bit bigger.
Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the service and the interior and exterior design of BOYY cafe!
Super chill and its a great place to camp there to do your work (as if you'll have work if you're there on a holiday) and have a cuppa.

BOYY Cafe is located at:
264/1 Soi 12 Sukhumvit 55, Sukhumvit Rd
Khlong Tan Nuea, Wattana

Nearest BTS: Thong Lor

We then hopped over to the famous After You Cafe , the branch in Thong Lor.
The cafe was surprisingly empty at around 4 pm, especially since I've heard about the long queues at the other branches like Central World.

Since we were all full from lunch earlier, we got a Shibuya Toast to share.
Because my friends have already tried the honey Shibuya Toast that everyone raved about and said they were disappointed, we decided to try something else instead so we got the Ferrero Shibuya Toast, 245 THB (SGD 10.20)
Like I said, cafe hopping really isn't cheap!
So if you're planning to cafe hop in Bkk, remember to change more cash!

That said, I don't know what to critic of the Shibuya toast we had.. I mean it was.. ok?
I don't really understand all the hype! The bread was fluffy and soft, yes. But it was all covered with chocolate sauce, ice cream, Ferrero and honey that I don't know what else to taste but those things..
Hahaha call me biased, but I thought it was a little too gelat for me!

My friends thought it was funny to take a Behind The Scenes to all food shots LOL!

Nevertheless we had a good time catching up with our friends who caught their flight back to Singapore that night.

After You Dessert Cafe is located at:
J Avenue, Thong Lor 13 , Bangkok

Nearest BTS: Thong Lor
Anyway, can I side track abit.. I love my new lippie I got from the SG airport!

We ended the first night going for some suits fitting at Alex's Fashion located at Amari hotel
Many of you have already written to me to ask about the suit tailor that did matt's suits for him, and I would highly recommend Alex's fashion!
They are cheap, honest and good. They even altered a pants I brought from Singapore for free! Even though Matt was the paying customer, not me. So yes, good things must share la haha!
He made a total of 2 Suits 2 Pants and 4 Shirts, and it was at a very good price!

DAY 2
Woke up bright and early at around 8 am to head to Pratunam Market to sweep some more loots off the shelves! Didn't end up with too much at the end because things have changed so much.
I used to be able to get 3 different items from a single store for wholesale price but these days it's hard to find any stall that would settle for anything less than 3 pieces of the same color, same design for wholesale price!
But if you're looking to buy single pieced items, Pratunam market is still cheaper than Platinum Mall that is located conveniently across the street.
Attempted to find the famous Pratunam Wanton Mee and saw that this stall was very crowded so we thought we found it (finally) and ordered 2 bowls spontaneously. But when the noodles came, it was so bad! LOL.
So we figured we got the wrong one after all ><

After a few hours of shopping in the morning, we spent the rest of the day just lounging in the apartment and checking out the facilities offered by klapsons, The River Residences.
Visited the gym and worked out a little before heading to take a dip at the gorgeous indoor pool on the 23rd floor!
The gorgeous pool!!!

After swimming, we headed out nearby for a late lunch. We were wandering around aimlessly when we bumped into this security guard that was on his way to work at klapsons. He recognised us and came up to us to ask if we needed help - such great service! He didn't have to but he did even though he could have just walked past us without us looking. So he recommended a few places nearby the apartment where we could grab a quick bite.

Walked past a few stalls selling chicken rice, kway chap (apparently the security guard said it was very good) and further up, a duck rice stall.
We had a serious communication breakdown with the staff at the street food stall because we couldn't understand thai and she couldn't understand english. So i just pointed to the duck that was hanging there and showed a peace sign (signalling I want two portions).
Then! The food came and she served us 1 serving of duck noodles and another serving of duck rice. No idea how she got that I wanted 1 each? but it was good because we got to try out both!
Of course, we won't forget my favorite drink to have in Thailand, Cha Yen (Thai Iced Milk Tea) - this was an exceptionally big cup, topped with whipped cream. So sinful but ah, how often do we get to drink Cha Yen so often and cheaply!
In the evening, we took the complimentary ferry ride provided by klapsons to Saphan Taksin BTS Station that is conveniently located just 2 mins away!

The ferry was super shiok, like your own private yatch. Hahaha matt and I kept going on about how THIS is how it would feel like if we were rich. LOL ><

Arriving at Asiatique, we gave this place that looked really crowded a try. It is at a restaurant called Rocking Dolls that we really liked!
Food wasn't the cheapest (asiatique is generally more expensive) but this meal was very satisfying!
For 2, we spent around 400THB for three dishes, 1 cha yen and 1 bottled water.
Not cheap right?

Rocking Doll is located at:
  • 2194, Charoen Krung Rd, Wat Phraya Krai, Bang Kho Laem
  • Asiatique
  • Bangkok, Thailand 10120

Nearest BTS: Saphan Taksin (you'll have to take a complimentary ferry ride to Asiatique from there)

So with that, we ended our second night in the land of smiles!
Keeping you guys updated on the rest of the days very soon, keep your eyes peeled!

Love,
Mong

  1. there is a lot of fake alex's fashion shops. and there a a lot of Amari hotels too. cross referencing both gave numerous results too. maybe if u include specifics like the exact location and name of the hotel, people would take you more seriously.

  2. Hello there! We are going to bkk soon and don't know of Paul's fashion is better/ cheaper or Alex's fashion. May I know how much Matt paid for the purchases you mentioned above?
